Under the programme of staging the National Independence Day commemorations outside Colombo, next year’s commemoration is planned to be held within the Hambantota District. It has been decided to hold the National Freedom Day commemoration opposite the Weeraketiya Rajapaksa Central College premises at Weeraketiya.

A special meeting to discuss the suitable developments that should be effected was held at the Weeraketiya Divisional Secretariat yesterday. It was presided by Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne.

The Minister and a group inspected the premises where the event is to be staged.An initial plan on the development that should be carried out was reached at the site. Accordingly, all access roads to the venue are to be developed. Deputy Minister Vijaya Dahanayake was among those who joined the Minister on the occasion.
