Political decisions taken to gain temporary advantages will ruin the country politically and socially - PM

    November 18, 2014

Prime Minister, Dr.D.M.Jayaratne says that, political decisions taken with the intention of gaining temporary advantages will ruin the country politically and socially.

Prime Minister participating in a ceremony held at historical Tissamaharama Rajamaha Vihara said that several MPs who represent the Parliament at present are making statements completely different to the statements they made before they came in to power.

Prime Minister D.M.Jayarathne participated in a series of social welfare programmes organized under the guidance of Ven.Devalegama  Dammasena Thera, Chief Incumbent   of both Tissamaharama and Sandagiri Vihara and under the direction of Vajira Irugalbandara, Co-ordinating Director to the President, parallel to the birthday celebration of  President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The programmes included granting spectacles for thousand senior citizens, Ayurveda and western medical clinics, blood donation campaign, granting nutritional packs for 300 pregnant mothers, distribution of dry rations  for thousand low income families and alms giving for Bikkhus   at the premises of Tissamaharama Rajamaha Vihara.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister, Dr.D.M.Jayaratne said “Several individuals who were elected to the Parliament with the help of  President Mahinda Rajapaksa, are expressing views against the President when the President has received the legal provisions for contesting for the Presidential Election for the third time.  President built a mansion by filling a wetland and asked everyone to live in it, but it is regretted that they are acting against him.  The President never hurts anyone whether that person is a friend or an enemy.  It is unjustly to criticize the President who treats  everyone equally.

"Many, who do not have a proper understanding of the Executive Presidency, are criticizing the President.  Although only six people speak against him those around them are expressing views against President without having a proper understanding.

"However, they have no capability to abolish the Executive Presidency or stop the President from contesting for the presidential election. The country may collapse into a state of anarchy due to  actions taken merely considering the dollars and pounds they receive.  Eleven countries in Asian region are facing many conflicts today, have no proper leadership, to direct their countries.  Some western nations who are trying to destroy the leadership of those countries are trying to take the powers of that so called countries and regions unto their hands.

"The country may convert into a land of terrorists again due to the action taken by European Union to grant legal powers to tiger Diaspora.  But the LTTEers will not be given an opportunity ro emerge by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.  LTTE has a large number of foreign fund reserves, huge 18 ships, and many aircrafts.  They have already decided their leader, Ministers and MPs as well, if an Elam could be established in Sri Lanka again.

"Groups who try to create terrorism, politically in the country again, have no clear understanding of the direction that the country should march on.  President Mahinda Rajapaksa took measures to develop the country and to offer proper place to the people’s representatives as well.  Lord Buddha had paid gratitude to the Bo-tree which supported Buddha to obtain enlightenment.  Lord Buddha had properly understood the value of paying gratitude.  If those representatives may pay gratitude to the President, they should kneel before the President”, added the Prime Minister.

Maha Sangha led by Ven. Dr. Devalagama Dammasena Thera, Chief Prelate of both Matara and Hambanthara Provinces, Incumbent of both Tissamaharama and Sandagiri Historical Viharas, Vajira Irugalbandara, Coordinating Director to the President, People’s representatives including Harsha Jayasundera, Chairman, Tissamaharama Pradeshiya Sabha and a large gathering of residents of the area were present at the occasion.
