The Elections Commissioner issuing a release said that interms of the paragraph (3A) of Article 31 of the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri L:anka, formal notification of the Proclamation by the President, Mahinda Rajapaksa "expressing his intention of appealing to the people for a mandate to hold office, by election, for a further term", has been received by the Dept. of Elections a around 1330 hrs on Nov.20.
The Election Commissioner has further said that acting upon under section 2 of the Presidential Elections Act, No 15 of 1981 as amended by the Presidential Elections (Amendment) Act No.16 of 1988, measures have been taken to publish by the Gazette Extraordinary, the date of nomination, the place of nomination and the date such elections will be held, at the earliest.(KH)
