The total investment made on the development of this sector in the year 2005 was 650 million rupees, while this amount increased to 1100 million rupees by last year. Even a major contribution had been made to the development of the tea smallholdings sector through the Divi Neguma National Development Programme.

The allocation made by Divi Neguma for the development of the tea smallholdings in 10 districts during last year alone was 17 million 112 thousand 962 rupees. Several initiatives have been taken for the upliftment of the tea industry in the 2015 national budget and the main focus was on the development of tea smallholdings.
