    Army Extends Further Assistance to Boost Economy of Jaffna Low Income Families

    Continuing Army’s community welfare programmes for needy people of Jaffna, Security Force Jaffna (SF-J) arranged a donation of livestock among 200 low income families on Saturday (22) morning. In a simple ceremony organized at Muttvaly ground in the Jaffna town, 100 cattle and 100 goats were handed over to the beneficiaries with view to strengthening their economy.

    Hon. Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises Douglas Devananda, as chief guest, attended the occasion organized to coincide the birthday of His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa. At the same time, 1000 coconut plants were distributed among schoolchildren to encourage them to contribute to the national economy. Meanwhile, 500 teak plants, 500 cashew plants, 500 margosa and 500 banana plants were also given to farming families.

     

    Beneficiaries were selected from the areas of 51, 52 and 55 Divisions. Donation was arranged on guidance of Commander SF-J Major General Udaya Perera.

     

    Earlier on the previous full moon day (November 06th), Jaffna troops handed over 100 cattle to 100 low income families at the same location with assistance of Sri Bodhiraja Foundation.

     

    Religious leaders and senior citizens were also present at the function. (KH)
