The Gunasinghepura Housing Scheme has been given a new birth.  The money then utilized for the war has now been put into repairing of houses.  Ranil Wickremasinghe held the reins of government for one and half years from 2001.  No money was ever given for reconstruction of these houses.  Our  leader who ended the war has now taken action to repair these houses.  We did not go into the politics of the residents, whether they were of the UNP, SLFP or they belonged to other parties.  We serve all people equally, said Minister Wimal Weerawansa vesting the  newly refurbished Gunasinghepura Housing Complex in the people on Tuesday (09).

Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Wimal Weerawansa has through the 'Janasevana' and 'Nagamu Purawara' programmes started a reconstruction programme at the Gunasinghepura Housing scheme.  This is the 36th housing project under Mahinda Chinthana Vision for the Future.  The Housing Development Authority has completed this programme together with the Sri Lanka Engineering Corporation.

The Gunasinghepura Housing Scheme that was completed in 1985 has 312 houses, 316 shops and also 8 legal offices.  The reconstruction work consisted of repairing the roofs as well as the waste water and sewerage systems and also stopping the seeping of water into the houses.  The reconstruction of the children’s park, the Buddhist Shrine and also fixing of new  gates have been completed.  A modern  physical training centre has also been added. The cost of the project is Rs.133.5 million.
