Police deploys 2000 labourers to remove cutouts and posters

    December 12, 2014
Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said  that eighty per cent of cutouts and posters related to the Presidential Election Campaigns have been removed  in Colombo so far and action will be taken to remove all of them as informed by the Election Commissioner.

Speaking at a press briefing held on Thursday at the Government Information Dept. SSP Ajith Rohana pointed out that Rs. 50 million has been allocated by the Election Commissioner for the removal of posters and cutouts for which around 2000 temporary labourers will be deployed.  The Police has already obtained the approval of the Election Commissioner for the deployment of labourers for the said purpose.

SSP Ajith Rohana called upon all politicians, People's Representatives, supporters and the public to co-operate with the Police in safeguarding election laws as this task cannot be handled by the Police alone.

It was noted that a Special Operational Unit has also been set up at the Police Headquarters to provide security during the Presidential Election. (KH)
