The Motherland First and Good Governance Second was my Policy - Gammanpila

    December 12, 2014
Member of the Western Provincial Council and the Deputy Secretary of the JHU Udaya Gammanpila said though the JHU consented to assist the Common Opposition Candidate , he was not in agreement in that decision and therefore he  joined the UPFA to support President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Speaking further at a press conference held at the SLDP Headquarters on Thursday (11) he added that there was a clash of interest in the policies specified by the Common Opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena.

The Common Opposition Candidate has stated recently at the Viharamahadevi Park that he would reactivate the 13th amendment which was now a dead letter and impractical and also gave a legal standard to nationalism which will not be conducive to good governance.

If the President were to be removed a better person should replace him.  But there is no such individual and no person is 100 percent perfect in this world.  The Executive Presidential System is the most advanced Presidential System.  There is an imbalance in the  existing system and as such it is compulsory to make changes to the present system.

The Motherland first and Good Governance second was my policy.  Accordingly I don't think that there is any harm in joining a party that could establish good governance without harming the motherland Gammanpila pointed out.

Looking at the  history of the opposition politicians, I would not agree to the views of them and therefore this selection suited me best Gammanpula said.(NJ/KH)
