    Missing Persons Commission to hold public sittings in Vavuniya District

    The Presidential Commission to Investigate into Complaints Regarding Missing Persons will conduct public sittings to hear cases of missing in Vavuniya District from 14th to the 17th of December 2014.

    Sittings will be held at the Cheddikulam Divisional Secretariat on the 14th and 15th December and in Vavuniya Divisional Secretariat on the 16th and 17th December.

     

    Persons who have been officially invited by the Commission are requested to attend sittings on those days.

     

    Any persons/ persons / organizations within the Divisional Secretariats of Cheddikulam and Vavuniya are invited to submit their complaints to the Commission on the scheduled days and venues. New complainants would be registered and notified of a date to make oral representation before the Commission, the Commission said.

     

    Since the Establishment of the Commission on 15th August 2013, the Commission up to date has received in excess of 19,671 complaints inclusive of approximately 5,000 complaints from relatives of missing security forces personnel.

     

    The Commission says it has held regular meetings with the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and has obtained their views and experiences gained in other parts of the world particularly on matters relating to missing persons at the end of a conflict.
