According to the Ministry,a program has been launched to plant 32 million coconut trees. Already, 19 million plants have been cultivated. Through this programe It is anticipated for the coconut production to increase from 600 to 700 million nuts.

During the establishment of the Coconut Development and Janatha Estate Development Ministry, the export revenue of coconut products in the first quarter of 2011 was only Rs. 2,115 million. It increased annually and the export revenue of total coconut related products in 2013 stood at Rs. 44,952 million. Sri Lanka exports 35 coconut related products to 135 countries, the ministry added.
