    Navy extends flood relief operations to Matale & Mannar

    Further extending its flood relief duties to Matale and Mannar districts Sri Lanka Navy rescue missions are in operation in full swing since the commencement of the inclement weather condition.

    Accordingly, Navy flood relief teams have been deployed in 07 districts including Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura and Ampara districts.

     

    Over 149 Naval personnel equipped with 62 Fiberglass Dinghy Boats and 05 Rigid Inflatable Boats are rendering assistance in coordination with the Disaster Management Centre and regional Government Authorities in the areas affected.

     

    Thus far, Naval troops have been rescued over 279 civilians during the flood relief operations. Accordingly, 75 persons in Tabbowa, 19 in Pansalgodalla, 21 in Galenbindunuwewa, 39 in Rajanganaya, 26 in Nochchiyagama, 06 in Sungawil, 35 in Shrawathipura, 13 in Saliyawewa, 06 persons of Anuradapura prison, 06 in Purawasathivu, 03 in Madukre, 15 in Kadikawa and 15 in Katupotha have been rescued.

     

    Security forces have been prepared to face any hazardous or emergency situation under the directives of His Excellency the President. In the meantime, Naval troops are continuously monitoring the current situation while maintaining extra relief measures on standby. (MoD)
