    Worst Flood since 1957

    Residents in low lying areas were requested to be vigilant due to water levels of several rivers including deduru Oya, Kala Oya, menik Ganga and Kelani Ganga are rapidly increasing.

    The Irrigation Department. said that 61 out of 73 main reservoirs are in spill levels while 161 medium size reservoirs are over flowing.  Sluice gates of 22 reservoirs have been opened. 

     

    The Department announced that this is the worst floods reported since 1957.  with six confirmed deaths  in the Badulla District from prevailing adverse weather. Three bodies were recovered from Rilpola Area in Badulla in the early hours of this morning, where five houses were damaged due to a landslide,.

     

    A 54-year-old woman and her 23-year-old son were killed after an earth embankment collapsed on their home in the Galkanda while one person dead due to an earth embankment collapsing on to a residence in the Hegoda area in Badulla.
