    People affected in Nuwara Eliya sheltered in 45 camps

    A disaster situation has been declared for most parts of the Central Hills due to the adverse weather conditions. Landslides have occurred in several places in the Nuwara Eliya District and with the issue of a landslide warning, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) has provided temporary shelter to many families in evacuation camps. Nuwara Eliya District Secretary D.P.G.Kumarasiri said that round the clock relief assistance are in place for the people in evacuation camps.

    According to the latest reports received from the Nuwara Eliya District Secretary 367 individuals belonging to 79 families in the Nuwara Eliya District Secretariat Division, 231 individuals belonging to 45 families in the Kothmale Divisional Secretariat Division, 681 belonging to 210 families in the Walapane Divisional Secretariat Division, 878 belonging to 199 families in the Hanguranketha Divisional Secretariat Division and 48 belonging to 11 families in Ambagamuwa have been provided temporary shelter at 45 evacuation camps.(KH)
