    Nuwara Eliya District going apace for the Presidential Election

    Election work in the Nuwara Eliya District is going apace for the forthcoming Presidential Election.
     
    534,150 persons in the Nuwara Eliya District are qualified to vote at the Presidential Election.  .
     
    There are four regions within the Nuwara Eliya District with 423 voting centres.  Maskeliya is the largest Electorate in the Nuwara Eliya District with 302,836 eligible to vote at the forthcoming elections.  The  total number of eligible voters in the Nuwara Eliya District  on electoral basis are - 78,068 in the Kothmale Electorate, 82193 in the Walapane Electorate and 71,053 in the Hanguranketha Electorate which has the minimum number of voter base.  Accordingly action has been taken to establish 213 voting centres in the Nuwara-Eliya-Maskeliya Electorate,  73 centres in Kothmale Electorate, 66 in Hanguranketha Electorate and 71 in Walapane Electorate.    There will be 10 coordinating centres.    
     
    Nearly 5100 officers will assist in the election activities while 1600 officers are detailed for counting of votes.
