In the past the Negombo garbage had been dumped at a site in Kochchikade. But after the Presidential election a group had fenced the site preventing the dumping of garbage. This has caused severe hardships to people of Negombo.

Expressing his views on the situation, Negombo Mayor Anton Jayaweera said that the country still lack a clear policy with regard to clearance of garbage

He emphasized that a National Policy in this respect is an immediate requirement.

In fact recycling of garbage is. a vital factor in the world.
