National Executive Council (NEC) member and Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) leader, MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that the special unit will investigate the murder of journalists Lasantha Wickrematunga and Dharmeratnam Sivaram, the disappearance of Prageeth Eknaligoda and attacks on several other journalists and media rights activists.

Dissanayake noted that the NEC had decided to appoint a special unit to ensure justice to the aggrieved persons and institutions since the previous government did not conduct proper investigations into the attack.
