India reduces entry fee to National Museum for Sri Lankans

    February 20, 2015

India has decided to reduce the entry fee to the National Museum in New Delhi for Sri Lankan nationals visiting the Museum, High Commission of India said in a release on Thursday. The new rates will come into effect from April 1, 2015. Sri Lankan nationals will thereafter have to pay a nominal entry fee of INR 10 (against INR 300 currently) to view the rich and varied collection at the National Museum.

During the visit of Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena to India on February 16, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, noting that Sri Lankan nationals visit the National Museum in New Delhi in large numbers to pay homage to the Kapilavastu relics, had announced the decision to reduce the entrance fee to the National Museum for Sri Lankan nationals.

In pursuance of the Prime Minister's announcement, the entry fee to the National Museum for Sri Lankan nationals has been reduced and brought at par with the fee paid by Indian nationals.

Sri Lanka is the only country to be accorded this special status.
