National Drug Policy Bill will be presented in Parliament today Featured

    March 03, 2015

The much delayed bill to implement the National Medicinal Drugs and Devices Policy based on Prof. Senaka Bibile’s Essential Medicines Concept will be presented in Parliament today at 1pm and the vote on the second reading will be taken up tomorrow evening.

The Cabinet in February, unanimously approved the long-awaited National Medicinal Drugs Authority Bill to be presented in parliament to regulate and reduce the prices of drugs in the country.

The current Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne expressed the hope it would be passed unanimously as a first step towards restoring a health service where the well-being of the patients is given top priority. He said this would put an end to the drug mafia that has plundered the wealth of the country and made access to healthcare to the affluent class.
