    Sri Lanka's first Ayurvedic Medicine Museum in Wadduwa

    Sri Lanka is to open in May the first ever museum to showcase the richness, the variety and the evolution of the Ayurveda traditional medicine heritage of Sri Lanka.

    ,'Withas Mahal', the three storeyed Ayurvedic Medicine Museum, which is also the second in the world, is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 60 million at Molligoda, Wadduwa in the Kalutara area.

     

    The exhibits in the museum have been divided into various sections, which include display of specimens of over 500 local medicinal plants and all local medicine-related literature and information useful for ayurvedic medicinal students following courses at universities and other institutes. The specially designed museum will also have lodging facilities for foreign students studying ayurvedic Medicine to facilitate them to  conduct research on local medicines while being lodged at the museum itself.

     

    'Withas Mahal' will also facilitate foreigners in obtaining 'Panchakarma' (five actions) medical treatments, which  is a cleansing and rejuvenating program for the body, mind and consciousness. It is known for its beneficial effects on overall health, wellness and self-healing.

     

    The museum will be equipped with a pharmacy for the sale of ayurvedic medicines as well.
