Addressing the welcome ceremony held at the Government Information Department, the Minister invited journalist fraternity to do their sacred job without any fear or favour. No journalist will be harassed or forced hereafter to slavishly work for those in power and hence they could perform their duties with dignity and decorum.

He said that journalists in the country had to work in a climate of fear and anxiety under the former regime. As a result of this regrettable and painful situation, several journalists were compelled to leave the country fearing for their lives.

"But such a period will not dawn again as everyone has the freedom to perform their duty without fear for their lives," the minister said.

He pointed out that the professionalism of the journalists should also be upgraded by establishing new Media training institutions.
