We are committed to foster peaceful coexistence amongst the different ethnic communities in the country while paying attention into land, education and health issues together-with the respective authorities. Secretary expressed these sentiments to media during his first visit to the Temple of the Tooth to pay homage to the Omniscient Sacred Relics. Meanwhile, he also received the blessings of Chief Prelates of the Three Chapters for the new appointment.

Further speaking he stated that, neither extremist activities nor reorganizing of terrorists would be tolerated. Through 'Social Development' we foster a peaceful, liveable and pleasant atmosphere as discussed with the President, he added.

Responding to a question he also said that, strengthening national security does not mean that it is merely intended for terrorists. But, in the same time we also concern on other parallel issues akin-to drug trafficking, intrusion and poaching by fishermen and other seaborne illegal activities, he said.

Further Mr. Hettiarachchi noted that, henceforth we work watchfully to respond in a more proactive manner for national issues.

On completion of religious rituals at the Temple of the Tooth, Secretary paid homage to the Chief Prelate of the Asgiriya Chapter the Most Venerable Galagama Sri Attadassi thero, Chief Prelate of the Malwathu Chapter the Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala thero and the Chief Prelate of the Ramangna Chapter Most Venerable Napana Pemasiri thero respectively.

Mrs. Wasantha Gunawardena, Military Liaison Officer Maj Gen Prasanna De Silva, senior military officials and Defence Ministry officials accompanied the Secretary.
