Health Services Director General, Dr. Mahipala said the health authorities fully investigate all dengue deaths. Majority of those dengue deaths had occurred due to not seeking prompt medical treatment. He said it is compulsory to seek prompt medical treatment from the nearest state hospital if fever prevail for more than two days.
Patients suffering from fever should be extra careful when the fever goes down because symptoms of DHF and Dengue Shock Syndrome arise after decreasing the fever., Dr.Mahipala said and added that the patients can be mistaken this stage as 'cured'.
He pointed out that the symptoms of DHF are severe pain in the stomach, vomiting, bleeding from gums, nose, vagina etc, red patches on the skin, coldness in hands and legs, less or no urination, paleness, sleepiness, uneasiness, feeling faintness, dizziness, etc.
Dr. Mahipala emphasised, seeking prompt medical treatment can save lives and avoid serious complications such as Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) and Dengue Shock Syndrome.
