The Minister pointed out that she wanted to stop more housemaids going overseas during these five years as she recognized the plight of the innocent people and to protect the dignity of the country.

She was speaking at a function held in Nivithigala to setup the UNP Student Front.

Minister Athukorala said that the workers in the garment sector which was about one million in 1994 has come down to about 300,000 by last year. She added that the aim of the Prime Minister is to introduce a system where a family would get at least an income of 40,000 rupees a month during these five years.
