Government confident defeating no-confidence motion Featured

    June 07, 2016

Government expressed its ability and the confidence to defeat the no-confidence motion against Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake with a two-third majority in the Parliament.

Several MPs of the government addressing a press conference today (7th June) at the Department of Government Information said, “The government is ready for this motion and it will be faced with the confidence.”

According to them, a “gang of bankrupt opposition MPs” through this motion aims to push the country back from the current progress and prevent the foreign donations received by the government due to its new optimistic image.

They also pointed out that presence of a Finance Minister was not witnessed in the Parliament and under the present Government democracy is established by the presence of a Finance Minister who is not the President.

“Allocating a Parliamentary day for this unnecessary motion, which is exactly to be defeated was also emphasized as a waste of public money,” they charged.

They further added that the new government under the President Maithripala Sirisena and the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will proceed over five years.

Lakshman Wijemanna MP, Asoka Priyantha MP, and Chaminda Wijesiri MP were present for the media briefing.
