No FCID will be disbanded – Dep. Minister

    June 13, 2016

Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Deputy Minister Karunarathna Paranavithana rejected state plans to disband the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID).

Instead the FCID tenor will be extended at least by six months, he assured.

Deputy Minister addressing a national newspaper yesterday (12th June) has said that the government has taken a policy decision that the FCID must continue.

He said “All investigations of the FCID would also be carried out without any interruption.”

He also said that the government would not deviate from this position, despite objections by a few against this Division and its investigations.

The FCID formed on 26th February2015will end its current term by 30th June.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe informed Parliament last week that the FCID had completed investigation into 44 cases and sent them to the Attorney General. On the advice of the Attorney General legal action has been proceeded on six of those cases so far. (CDN)
