    Gallantry Medals presented to Army Veterans

    Sri Lanka Army awarded gallantry medals to its veteran soldiers in recognition of their selfless acts of heroism and bravery during a ceremony held on Thursday (03rd November). The ceremony held at the Army Cantonment in Panagoda was presided over by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, states army media sources.

    During the investiture ceremony 1000 army veterans from various regiments were awarded with Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP) and Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) gallantry medals in recognition of their acts of bravery, dedication and commitment to end the plague of terrorism and usher in lasting peace to the country before May 2009.

     

    The Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP) is awarded to military officers and other ranks as a reward for allied or individual acts of heroism and bravery in the face of the enemy. It is known as the combat gallantry medal. The Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) is also considered as the combat excellence medal and it recognizes individual and associated acts of heroism in facing the enemy.

     

    Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army, senior military officers, gallantry medal recipients, family members of fallen War Heroes and other army personnel were also present at the occasion.
