Addressing media yesterday at his ministry, Minister Karunanayake stated the required members to the said Office to launch and implement its activities will be appointed by the Constitutional Council soon.

The media conference had been convened to educate about the outcome of the recent tour of Bangladesh by President Maithripala Sirisena.

‘Sri Lanka has entered commercial diplomacy and, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expects to disclose more details about the new mechanism within the next two or three weeks. The Foreign Ministry is put on a full restructure. We expect to modernize this institution in order to give it new face of more commercial diplomacy. We have been planning how to give a global perspective to this country and push it forward through this institution. In this effort, we are following the models ushered by India, Singapore, Canada, Poland and New Zealand. My goal is to convert a sleepy ministry into a robust institution. I am determined to transfer this ministry to a place with a farsighted ministry. My target is not only to appear for human rights issues but also to improve commercial and economic surge thereby take the country forward through debtless investment’, the minister said.
