According to the present Local Authorities laws, Pradeshiya Sabhas or other governing authorities cannot undertake any development activities or welfare projects for the plantation sector people if the lands are owned by plantation companies.

Understanding this shortcoming, Ministers Palani Digambaram, Mano Ganeshan, and Nuwara Eliya District MP M. Thilakaraj had a discussion with Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Faizer Musthafa recently.

Based on the discussion, Minister Musthafa presented the cabinet paper to amend the Act.
