    Bad weather warning for heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas in next 12 hours – Weather Warning Center

    The Early Warning Center of the Department of Meteorology predicted that deep depression in the Arabian sea to the west of Sri Lanka is now located at 300km to the west of Colombo and it is likely to develop in to a cyclonic storm within the next few hours and move west –northwest ward direction. Hence, showery and windy condition about (60-70 kmph) is expected over the island particularly in the South –western part.

     

    In its observation note issued for next 12 hours from 10 a.m. today (30th Nov.) the center says that very heavy falls about 100-150mm can be expected at some places in the Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Western and Uva provinces.

     

    The center further said that since the rainfall within the past 24 hours has exceeded 150mm and if the rains continue, evacuate to a safe location to avoid risk of landslides, slope failures, rock falls, cutting failures and ground subsidence may occur in following areas.

     

    Boraluwage Ayina , Bulutota ,Ranhotikanda, Iththakanda ,Ulinduwa and Buthkanda in Kolonna DS Division in Ratnapura District, Haldulmulla and Bandarawela DS Division in Badulla District, Laggala and Pallegama DS Division in Matale District, Waleboda , Boltumbe, Maratenna, Udagama and Pidaligan-arawa GN Divisions in Imbulpe DS Division Ratnapura District, Elpitiya DS Division in Galle District, Pitabeddara , Kotapala DS Divisions in Matara District.
