    OMP to release interim report soon

    The Office on Missing Persons (OMP) will release its interim report on August 30 to coincide with the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances.The report will present recommendations to the Government on several issues of the missing.

    “This commemoration is especially symbolic given that the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance Act (No 5 of 2018) was passed by Parliament in March this year, while the OMP was set up in February 2018 marking significant achievements in addressing the issue of the missing and the disappeared,” President of the OMP, Saliya Peiris said.

    The day will also be marked by an event organised by the OMP at the J.R. Jayewardene Centre from 3-5 p.m. with the participation of the families of the missing along with civil society members.

    The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Deepika Udagama, the Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka. Speeches will also be delivered by members of the families of the missin
