The Attorney General (AG) yesterday (Jun 7) requested the Chief Justice (CJ) to appoint a three-member judge bench to hear the central bank bond scam case. A charge sheet comprising 23 charges against the suspects involved in the bond scam which took place on February 27, 2015 has been prepared by the AG. Accordingly, permission has been sought from the Chief Justice to submit the charge sheet against the suspects at the Special High Court, co-ordinating officer to the AG,a reaiabie source said.
The suspects will be charged under Section 5 (1) of the Public Property Act for illegally selling treasury bonds worth Rs 10,058 billion and causing Rs 688,762,100 in losses. Former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, Arjun Aloysius, Paththinige Samarasiri, Kasun Palisena, Geoffrey Aloysius, Pushyamithra Gunawardena, Ranjan Hulugalle, Muthuraja Surendran, Gardiye Punchihewa, and Perpetual Tresuries Ltd.have been named as the accused in the case.
