He was addressing the National Peace Council of Sri Lanka at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Hall (BMICH), yesterday. “While other countries have moved forward, we are lagging behind due to racial and ethnic violence. We all have a responsibility to look past ethnic differences and take the country towards success,” he said.
“Without any political distinctions, we were able to pass the Right to Information Act which is internationally accepted.Through this act, one is able to perceive past information. We need such movements to develop the country,” he added. The Speaker also highlighted the importance of establishing the Office of Missing Persons in order to mete out justice for citizens who were battered by endless conflict in the country.
“The procedures followed by the Office of Missing Persons are handled impartially and the National Peace Council is assisting it render a better service,” he added.Furthermore, he said that the National Peace Council of Sri Lanka plays a major role in creating reconciliation and peace within the country.
