The new hospital built with Rs.7000 million assistance from the Kingdom of Netherlands consists 850 beds, modern hospital equipment, Surgical Operation Theatre, Intensive Care Units, Out-Patients Departments (OPD), pharmacies, a blood transfusion center and official quarters for both in-house doctors and nurses. In addition, a Dialysis Unit also under construction at the hospital premises which is scheduled to be completed by 2020.
Speaking at the opening ceremony President Sirisena stressed the importance of prevention and cure in the future health planning in order to build a healthy nation. After unveiling the plaque to mark the opening, President inspected the new CI Scanner facility set up at the hospital for vital medical diagnosis. Construction of this modern hospital was commenced in 2012 when President Sirisena was the Minister of Health.
