    New election culture led to peaceful Presidential poll

    The Presidential Election 2019 will go down in history as the election with the least number of violent incidents, conflicts and Police complaints mainly because of the new election culture introduced by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Parliamentarian Dullas Alahapperuma said.Addressing the media at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) office yesterday, MP Alahapperuma said that nearly seven million people cast their votes in favour of SLPP Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Rajapaksa never resorted to mudslinging at his opponents,” the MP said.


    “This election would be a turning point in world election history. President Rajapaksa never mentioned the names of opposition candidates or other political parties during his election campaign and his speeches were only about his policy statement and vision,” he added.Mahajana Eksath Peramuna Leader MP Dinesh Gunawardane said that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had massive support across the country.
    National Freedom Front Leader Wimal Weerawansa said that the Presidential Election 2019 was a very decisive one that determines the fate of the country.“People voted for SLPP candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa with lots of expectations. President Rajapaksa has already taken a number of measures in order to turn a new chapter in the country’s political culture without corruption and waste. So we hope that the people who expect this change will extend their fullest support to making our endeavours a success.This would create an opportunity for our future generations to reap the benefits of this new progressive journey,” he added.
    SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara pledged to extend their fullest support to the SLPP to form a strong government for the next five years.Pivithuru Hela Urumaya Leader Udaya Gammanpila said that the NDF Presidential Candidate Sajith Premadasa, MPs Mangala Samaraweera, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Sarath Fonseka and Minister Rajitha Senaratne played a crucial role in the victory of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa by slinging mud at him.
    Gammanpila further said that the JVP led alliance suffered the worst defeat at the election. He said that the JVP would only be able to secure a single Parliamentary seat at the next general election.MP Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Communist Party Chairman Raja Kollure, Prof Tissa Vitharana and MP S. Viyalendran also addressed the occasion.
