    Rs.1,000 daily wage for estate workers from March 1 Featured

    The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal submitted by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to increase the minimum daily wage of a plantation worker should be Rs.1000 with effect from March 1, Co- Cabinet Spokesman, Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardene disclosed today.


    Addressing the Cabinet press briefing held at the Auditorium of the Government Information Department this morning Dr. Gunawarde4ne further said that this was Delivering of a key pledges made the President Rajapaksa during his presidential election campaign.
    Answering a question raised by a journalist Co- Cabinet Spokesman Plantation Minister Ramesh Pathirana described this step is one of the measures govt. has taken to develop the infrastructure in the estate sector . “The government has taken several measures to improve the productivity and quality in the tea industry. These include tax relief and concessions for fertilizer.Plantation companies reap the benefits of these measures and these benefits should be shared with the workers as well,” the Minister stressed.
    With the development in the production and industrial sectors the government’s intention is to pass on the benefits of such development to the workers as well Dr. Pathirana added.
