Maha Sivarathri dispels darkness, emanates the light of knowledge - President

    February 21, 2020

I join all Sri Lankan Hindu devotees who are dedicating themselves to celebrate the Maha Sivarathri festival which signifies the dispelling of darkness of ignorance with the light of knowledge and understanding, states President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in a Maha Sivarathri message.

The message: “Hindu devotees believe that various religious rituals performed throughout the day of Maha Sivarathri, which is one of the most important events of the Hindu calendar, will help to eliminate dark evil thoughts emerging in the hearts of human beings and will pave the way for spiritual bliss.

“The religion brings mental relaxation and well being for human beings who have to move forward in life facing numerous challenges, obstacles and complexities.

“Our Tamil brothers and sisters are also among the Sri Lankans who live with hope and aspiration believing in a new tomorrow. As the leader of the country, I am very pleased to see that all citizens are committed for the progress of our motherland while ensuring inter-religious harmony and co-existence with commitment. “I wish that the soul of every human being will be brightened by the light of the lamps lit on the day of Maha Sivarathri.’
