    March 15, 2020

There are 1719 persons currently under quarantine at 10 quarantine centres as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19), Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva said.

The Commander said this during a joint electronic media discussion aired live on the truths and myths regarding the Coronavirus epidemic.

He noted that 14 of these persons are currently hospitalised, adding that Army doctors and medical staff have been deployed at all the quarantine centres.

The Army Commander said that national security does not only imply a war situation but the intervention in any situation where the country is facing a threat. In such circumstances, he said that the Sri Lanka Army is committed to taking the responsibility of protecting the nation onto its shoulder. Accordingly, the quarantine procedures were carried out after prior notification, he added.
