The meeting was headed by Hon Minister of Health, Mrs Pavithra Wanniarchchi, Head of the NCOPCO, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army and Medical Specialist, Dr Anil Jasinghe, Director General of Health Services.
The discussions centred largely to formulate a strategy for post-COVID exit of normalizing the civil life on a scientific and practical basis and receiving scientific updates from respective experts in specific fields on the status quo, prognosis for strategic future measures and new approaches that should be adopted for any future arrest of the COVID-19 transmission.
Medical experts of the College of Community Physicians of Sri Lanka (CCPSL) submitted a detailed presentation covering all aspects of the pandemic, explaining how the current positive developments could be harnessed for normalization of society and economic affairs on a staggered basis.
Representatives of the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) also expressed their views on the same lines and underlined the need to expedite PCR tests being conducted across the Quarantine Centres since it is the most productive and proven technique.
Attorney at Law DIG Ajith Rohana during the discussion pointed out the legal aspects of the prevailing epidemic and what would follow as legal implications for further improvement of society. He also explained the status quo as regards curfew violators and vehicles that have been taken into custody for violation of curfew rules and regulations.
The outcome of this discussion would be further taken up for deliberations during the Task Force meetings at the Presidential Secretariat for final implementation, the meeting was told by the head table.
