He made this announcement during a media briefing convened today (10).

The decision to hold the election on August 05th was taken after a meeting held at the Election Commission.

The parliamentary election was scheduled to be held on June 20th, but due to the Corona epidemic, the elections had to be postponed.

Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya also noted that the Gazette Notification on the staging of the election had been signed and sent for printing.
