Commander of the Navy takes part in beach cleaning programme at Gintota

    June 14, 2020

Another beach cleaning drive conducted by the Navy in view of protecting and preserving pristine beaches in the island got off the ground at the Gintota beach with the participation of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva   (13th June 2020).

Due to the recent heavy rains experienced in the island, the water levels of the Gin Ganga had swollen. As a result, a large amount of tree-remains and garbage had been heaped on the Gintota beach. The Navy is carrying out a number of coastal clean-up programs to safeguard the beaches around the island, under the Green and Blue project. As part of that initiative, the latest effort of that nature got off the ground today, with the active participation of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva. The event was also attended by Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kassapa Paul and naval personnel attached to the command. They managed to remove a large amount of tree-remains and garbage scattered in the beach, as the programme came to a close.

Meanwhile, the Navy will continue to preserve the pristineness of the beaches around the island, by continuing its beach clean-up programmes in the future as well.
