    Commander Appointed as Chairman, National Sports Selection Committee

     Hon Namal Rajapaksa (MP), Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Friday evening (02) at the Sports Ministry in Torrington Square, Colombo 7 awarded appointment letters to the National Sports Selection Committee and new members of the Appeal Advisory Committee, appointed to advise the Sports Minister on sports policy matters.

    Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army who has been a member of the National Sports Selection Committee received the appointment letter as the Chairman of the National Sports Selection Committee at the same venue, together with other members of the Committee.

    Mr Suresh Subramaniam (President, Sri Lanka Olympic Committee), Mr Maxwell de Silva (Secretary General, Sri Lanka Olympic Committee), Mr Arjun Rishya Fernando and Mr Mohamed Hafeez Marso are the other members of the National Sports Selection Committee and Justice Kankani Thanthi Chitrasiri (Chairman), Mr. Chandaka Jayasundere P.C, Mr. Dinal Mario Rex Philips P.C, Mr. Sidath Wettamuni, Ms. Damayanthi Darsha, Mr. Arittha Rahula Wickramanayake and Ms. Roshani Marie Kobbekaduwa are the Appeals Committee Members.

    Presenting letters of appointment to those National Sports Selection Committee and members in the Appeal Advisory Committee, the Minister congratulated all new appointees and highlighted the importance of those appointments in order to develop sports in the country while selecting the best of the best in the industry.

    Afterwards, those members discussed the importance of those committees for promotion of sports and future collective actions that should be adopted in order to further elevate standards, aimed at a better future in the field of sports. The Minister and members of both committees agreed to do their best for promotion of sports skills in future.
