    Parliament Sittings Will Continue as Usual

    The Committee on Parliamentary Business has decided to continue sittings of Parliament. The Committee came into this decision at the meeting chaired by Hon. Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena Oct (08).


    Accordingly, the Parliament will convene as usual from the 20 th of October. It was decided to take three regulations under the Sri Lanka Export Development Act in to debate on the 20 th
    followed by the adjournment motion by the Government which will be taken up for debate from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm.

    Regulations under the Medical Ordinance will be taken up for debate on the 21 st of October. The adjournment debate by the will be taken up for debate from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm.

    Motion at the Adjournment Time regarding the ‘Contemporary Health Concern’ by the Government will be taken up on the 22 nd of October from 10.00 am to 4.30 pm. Accordingly, the vote of condolence which was scheduled to be presented in Parliament of the late Hon. members of Parliament Surangani Ellawala, K.P. Silva and R. R. W. Rajapakse Oct; (09) will be taken up on the 23 rd of October.

    Meanwhile, given that the Speaker announces the decision of the Supreme Court regarding the 20 th Amendment to Parliament on the October 20 th , the Committee on Parliamentary Business decided to meet again to make the necessary changes to the order paper to accommodate the debate on the 20 th Amendment.

    Members Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena, the Leader of the House of Parliament, Hon. Johnston Fernando, the Chief Government Whip, Hon. Lakshman Kiriella, the Chief Opposition Whip, Hon. Chamal Rajapaksa, Hon. Douglas Devananda, Hon. Dullas Alahapperuma, Hon. Gayantha Karunatilleka, Hon. Anura Dissanayaka, Hon. M. A. Sumanthiran, Hon. Rishad Bathiudeen, Hon. G. L. Peiris, Hon.  Deputy Secretary General and Chief of Staff Neil Iddawala were present at the said meeting.
