    About 300,000 vaccines have been reserved for the second dose - State Minister Sudarshini Fernandopulle

    State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control, Sudarshini Fernandopulle asserted that the vaccination process for those who received the first oxford – AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine will commence in April 19 and that about 300,000 oxford – AstraZeneca vaccines have been reserved for this purpose.

    The State Minister said this responding to a question raised at the Parliament today (05).

    State Minister Fernandopulle further added that although it had been stated earlier that the second dose should be taken in 4 weeks, according to the latest research data, it would take 10 to 12 weeks and therefore the remaining stock of vaccines would be available in the meantime.

    Responding to a question regarding the allowance provided by the government for senior citizens, the State Minister said that steps will be taken to provide a monthly allowance of
    Rs.2500 provided by the government for senior citizens. Furthermore, she said that monetary assistance has been requested from the Director-General of the National Budget
    Department and the relevant payments will be made as soon as the money is received.
