    Seva Vanitha – sponsored RO plant vested with public in Karuwalagaswewa, Puttalam

    Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, in the company of the President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU), Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne, (09th October 2021) declared open a Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant installed by the Navy in Karuwalagaswewa, Puttalam. As such, the facility was made available for community use at the Siri Sambuddha Galapitagala Temple in Rajavigama, as yet another Naval Social Responsibility initiative, sponsored by the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit.

    Sri Lanka Navy, as a partner in the national effort to eradicate kidney disease from Sri Lanka, commenced the construction of this facility, the 874th of its kind, on 18th September 2021. The installation work reached expeditious completion, largely due to the initiatives of the Ministry of Health, financial provisions made possible by the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, naval manpower and engineering excellence of the Sri Lanka Navy. Upon completion of work of the facility, it was vested with the community in the area, in a ceremony presided over by Commander of the Navy and President NSVU today. Accordingly, devotees visiting the Siri Sambuddha Galapitagala Temple as well as a large community in Rajavigama, Karuwalagaswewa and surrounding villages will be able to fulfill their safe drinking water requirement from this RO plant.

    The opening was held in accordance with COVID-19 protocols in force to prevent the pandemic transmission. Members of Maha Sangha including the Deputy Chief Sanghanayake of the North Central Province, Deputy Registrar of the Madyama Nuwaragam Palatha Sasanarakshaka Mandalaya and Chief Incumbent of Siri Sambuddha Galapitagala Temple, Ven. Panvila Gunarathana Nayaka Thero, Commander Northwestern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jayantha Kularathne, senior officers from the Navy Headquarters and Northwestern Naval Command and a group of residents were also present on this occasion.
