    Sri Lanka’s Former Ambassador in Korea Donates Cancer Detection Equipment

    The Former Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Korea, His Excellency, Dr A Saj. U. Mendis, (Nov 5) called at the Commander’s office and symbolically donated a set of Cancer Detection and Treatment Equipment to General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army for distribution among most wanted hospitals.

    The Assistant Military Secretary, Brigadier Pradeep Kulathunga received the visiting diplomat at the main entrance to the Commander’s Secretariat and ushered him to the Commander’s office before the brief interactive meeting began.

    General Shavendra Silva after a warm welcome thanked the visiting Former Ambassador for his thoughtfulness and the kind initiative for donation of such medical accessories for the best interests of Sri Lankan Cancer patients. “Such donations that could help raise medical standards and bring solace to less privileged strata of our society showcase the common concerns and mutual relations that the two nations have shared over the years. This generosity is acknowledged and would serve as a renewed and sound diplomatic endeavour as both nations maintain sound and healthy relations,” he added.

    He also thanked the International Interchange Development Association of the Republic of Korea for the generosity extended towards the people of Sri Lanka.

    Towards the end of the interaction, General Shavendra Silva awarded a memento to the His Excellency Dr A Saj. U. Mendis and wished him good luck with his future endeavours.
