SriLankan Aviation College partners with Mobitel for mLearning platform

    August 07, 2015
National Carrier’s integrated training arm, SriLankan Aviation College, joined hands with the National Mobile Service Provider, Mobitel to introduce the electronic learning platform, mLearning for the education and training requirements of the college.

mLearning allows simultaneous lecture delivery via several multimedia modes such as PowerPoint, Instant Messaging Word, Video, Audio and Internet, with live audio/video multiple way communication to enable interaction between students and teachers.  This also provides an ideal platform for question and answer sessions where students can clarify what they learn and clear their doubts.  mLearning also facilitates material sharing and session recording, so that students can keep them stored for their future reference.

mLearning will offer the students of SriLankan Aviation College a greater convenience and flexibility in the learning process, where they can access the lessons from any place at any preferred time. It creates a highly learner-oriented environment which encourages learner engagement via the internet.

SriLankan Aviation College conducts an extensive range of IATA training programmes and a specialized line up of professional training courses in collaboration with CILT-SL (Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport Sri Lanka), the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka Institute of Supply & Materials Management and Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing.

Expressing the importance of adopting new technology to facilitate students, SriLankan Airlines, Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Rakhita Jayawardena said, “Now, SriLankan Aviation College, in collaboration with Mobitel, is taking yet another great stride forward by adopting mLearning. Our Aviation College has been quick to recognise that new mobile technology is playing an ever expanding role in redefining how we receive information.”

Chief Executive Officer of Mobitel, Mr. Ranjith G. Rubasinghe stated on the knowledge sharing partnership, “Mobitel is geared towards expanding its mLearning platform, and the company’s new partnership with the SriLankan Aviation College provides new opportunities to develop their education system further.  The solution offers young learners the chance to benefit immensely from the efficiency and easy accessibility of the superior mLearning technology which will undoubtedly contribute to the future advancement of distance learning in Sri Lanka.”

Having trained SriLankan staff for over three decades, SriLankan Aviation College adheres to the global standards and the unique individualism of different airlines; thus, the unparalleled experience has enabled it to introduce customised training solutions for students, while providing them on-the-job training.

Certified by the Civil Aviation Authorities of Sri Lanka, Oman, Pakistan, the Maldives and the European Safety Agency, SriLankan Aviation College offers a wide range of engineering training courses that are also sought after by the students from the South Asian and Middle Eastern region.
