    Rs. 240 million allocated to give a fresh glass of milk to children

    Child Development and Women’s Affairs Minister Tissa Karaliyadda told Parliament today (05) that the government has planned to provide a fresh glass of milk to the children of 2 to 5 years and allocated Rs 240 million in the Budget 2013 for the purpose.

     

    The minister said this in response to a question raise by Anuradhapura District UNP MP P Harrison.


    Minister Karaliyadda said that there were 226,494 children eligible to benefit from the government’s programme of providing a fresh glass of milk to each child. The cost of providing a glass of milk to a child per month was estimated at Rs 180. There were 13,496 registered pre-schools in the country as per now. The provision of a fresh glass of milk to each child was being implemented in the pre-schools in the area coming under the Divisional Secretariats of the Anuradhapura District, the minister said.
