Premier Wickramasinghe made this observations responsding to the opposition MP Wasudeva Nanayakkara with regard to allocation of a time for the no confidence motion moved by the joint opposition.
"According to the constitution , the budget is an expression of confidence about the government. After presenting a budget amendments can be brought by the Government and go for a vote. . But a no confidence motion cannot be moved against the Finance Minister. You should respect the constitution and abide by it. Budget ia past of the government and it not Ravi Karunanayake's. regarding to the budget, he said. Let us submit it to a Select Committ and await a decision", the Prime Minister added.
