    President assures to fulfill verbal and written promises given to the people Featured

    President Maithripala Sirisena says he would fulfill the verbal and written promises given to the people at the Presidential Election – 2015.

    He added that he politically takes pity on those who are counting days for the government to collapse shouting that the election promises of the government have been blown, and making various statements on political platforms, Parliament and to the media.

     

    The President was speaking at the ceremony held today (Dec. 17) at the G. H. Buddhadasa Playground to present the letters of permanent appointments to the workers of the Ceylon Electricity Board.

     

    The workers of the Ceylon Electricity Board were engaged in a massive demonstration, demanding the permanency of their jobs on December 17th in 2014. The President today is fulfilling his promise given to them on that day as the Common Candidate during the Presidential Election.

     

    “There has been an issue about fulfilling the election promises after the governments were elected. But my government is committed to fulfill the promises given to the people through the Election Manifesto, for the future of this country”, the President said.

     

    “No government was able to solve all the problems on solving the issues of cost of living, employment as well as find solutions for social problems to ensure the personal satisfaction of all the people within the first few months of an election. But we will properly fulfill those responsibilities in the coming few years”, he further stated.

     

    “Passing of the 19th amendment to the Constitution, even though the government did not enjoy a two third majority in Parliament is a historic victory not only for our country, but also for the countries with democratic governments. Here a new government was able to implement a program on 100 days and pass the 19th amendment to the constitution in the concept of a national government,” the President said.

     

    President Sirisena symbolically handed over few of the letters of appointments.

     

    The workers of the Ceylon Electricity Board expressed their gratitude to the President for solving the long lasted problem faced by them.

     

    Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera, MP Nalin Bandara, former Mayor of Kaduwela G. H. Buddhadasa, Secretary to the Minister of Power and Renewable Energy P. M. N. Batagoda, Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board Anura Wijepala also participated in this ceremony.(PMU)
