    Philosophies of religious leaders made world better - President Featured

    President Maithripala Sirisena says whenever the human society went through situations of conflict great religious leaders emerged. Hence all religious leaders produced their philosophies to make the human beings and the world better, he added.

    The President was speaking at the National Meelad-un-Nabi Ceremony held Thursday (Dec. 24) at the Cooperative building in Polgolla, Katugastota.

    “The human society has been strengthened through the comprehensive teachings of all those religious philosophies which made the minds pure and controlled”, the President pointed out.

    “There hasn’t been built an environment for any country or powerful person to live freely and happily without any threat. This is shown through the large effort made by the strong countries for their security”, he said.

    The President pointed out the importance of expanding the national and religious reconciliation in Sri Lanka. “The bitter experience which we gained from the national and religious conflicts throughout the last decades, has made clear the requirement of moving forward, ignoring all the divisions” the President said.

    “When I met the Holy Pope he said the reason for the current terrorism is not those who are fighting but those who are manufacturing weapons”, he stated.

    The President also said that the Medina Charter of the Prophet Muhammad has greatly helped for people’s unity. “Everybody should act to bring about the peace in the motherland according to those guidance and teachings”, he said.

    “The philosophy of the Prophet Muhammad is an example not only for the Islamic devotees, but also for the entire nation”, the President further stated.

    President Sirisena presented gifts and certificates to the winner who achieved fourth place from the International Holy Koran Competition held in Mecca, and the winners of this year’s scholarship exam. He also presented gifts and certificates to the winners of the competitions held in line with the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad.

    Ministers M. H. M. Haleem, Lakshman Kiriella, Rauff Hakeem Rishad Bathiudeen, A. H. M. Fowzie, MP Lucky Jayawardena and the Assistant High Commissioner of India Radha Wenkatharaman also participated in this ceremony.
